Spinergy Purchases Digital Disc Press

December 21, 2006 - Spinergy is excited to announce the acquisition of a new direct to disc digital printing technology. The new service is expected to be available to customers early in 2007. In addition to Spinergy's screen printing and thermal printing services, direct to disc digital printing is an alternative option for customers looking for smaller quantities of full color CDs or DVDs at a fast turn.

One of the initial five to be in operation within the United States, the Tapematic 2Print Digital Color Disc Press allows Spinergy to offer fast turn, full color, high quality digital disc printing at an economical price to customers at low quantities.

The acquisition of the digital disc press is keeping with Spinergy's commitment to implementing technological advances in an effort to offer customers the widest variety of options within the CD and DVD industry.

"The addition of this machine will allow Spinergy to maintain its status as an industry leader in CD and DVD manufacturing and printing," said Spinergy President Mary Reeves. "We can provide full color, digitally printed discs economically at lower quantities—meaning faster service for our customers without sacrificing quality."

The new service utilizes ultra-violet curable inks applied to discs via a series of nozzles. The result is an indelible disc surface with graphic quality commensurate to that of screen printing. It is most efficient at CD or DVD print runs of 2,000 discs or fewer. The technology also allows for variable data printing and disc serialization.

Spinergy Named to Rochester Top 100

November 22, 2006 - Spinergy has been named to the 2006 Rochester Top 100 list, ranking #90. This marks the fourth time in six years that Spinergy has been recognized for its continued growth.

"The Top 100 recognition speaks to the commitment Spinergy has to providing the highest quality products and services to our customers without sacrificing customer service," said Mary Reeves, Spinergy President. "It is a great achievement to be included on the list."

Spinergy's growth can be attributed to its commitment to adapting new technology, maintaining consistent product quality and developing long-lasting business relationships with customers.

The Rochester Top 100 is sponsored by the Rochester Business Alliance and KPMG LLP, recognizing privately-held companies in the Greater Rochester Area who demonstrate significant revenue growth. Companies must have at least $1 million in revenue for each of those years, and rankings take into account both dollar and percentage growth.

Providing complete eMedia solutions in both consumer and business-to-business environments, Spinergy is a leading provider of CD-R/DVD-R duplication and screen printing, as well as packaging, warehousing and fulfillment services.

2006 Audio vs. Data CD Masters – Know Your Software

September 27, 2006 - Just as important as the quality of the content of the disc is the manner in which the master is prepared. There are several methods of "burning" content to a disc. Choosing the correct method depends on the content itself.

Audio and data CDs — while they store the same files - differ in the manner in which files are "written" to the disc. Data CDs are created in an "as-is" state, meaning that the files are transferred to the disc without any additional encoding or decoding. The disc contents are formatted just as they would be on your computer's hard drive. Even if the files are audio formats, the method in which they are written to the disc classifies them as data files. While they may play back just fine in your computer's drive, data discs cannot be played back in most stand alone players.

Audio CDs, on the other hand, are created by converting an existing digital audio file (MP3, .wav, .aif) to an uncompressed CDA file, a 44.1 kHz, 16-bit stereo format. Commonly used software such as Nero or Roxio makes this process seamless to the end user while also creating additional header data displaying track and album info.

When creating a master disc, take time to confirm in your software that you are creating either a data or audio disc. Most software packages include step by step instructions with options for creating each format.

As always, your Spinergy representative is available to answer your questions about creating a high quality master for your next audio or data duplication or replication project.

Value-Added Supply Chain Solutions

June 26, 2006 - Change is inevitable. And it can be expensive. For businesses that use CD or DVD media, change can also mean a lot of wasted inventory.

For example, under a traditional supply chain model, CDs or DVDs produced for one version of software become obsolete when an update is introduced. Tens, hundreds or even thousands of discs are then scrapped and new discs are produced and printed with the software update and appropriate label.

Spinergy offers value-added duplication in conjunction with fulfillment and distribution services that can help manage the supply chain and reduce wasted inventory. For businesses with an inherent need to make changes frequently, utilizing third party logistics can be economical and efficient.

Let's revisit the example above under a different supply chain model. Company ABC is a software developer. They release a new program for which they anticipate periodic future updates. In order to reduce wasted stock, Spinergy screen prints blank recordable media. As new versions of the software are introduced, Spinergy duplicates the new program from a supplied master and thermally overprints the version number, barcode or other variable data onto the disc surface-only in the quantities needed for that particular update. The discs can be picked and packaged with supplied books, manuals or other collateral material and shipped direct to the company or customer in a timely manner.

The process eliminates unnecessary waste and streamlines the supply chain, making fulfillment and distribution of your project seamless and cost-efficient. Contact Spinergy today to see how your company can benefit from our value added solutions.

CD or DVD, That is the Question

May 24, 2006 - CDs and DVDs both offer a wide range of features and value for nearly every communications task. It makes sense, CDs and DVDs are affordable, portable, and can offer dynamic and interactive content that traditional paper collateral simply can't deliver. While the benefits of optical media are well documented, it can be confusing when trying to pick the correct media type to serve your purpose. It all boils down to two points: know your audience, and evaluate your content.

Come One, Come All

It may sound elementary, but the first question you should ask is who you are trying to reach. Is your disc intended to be used by a single user, or is it meant to be viewed in a larger group? Discs viewed on a computer lend themselves to smaller audiences, typically one or two users at a time. Most home and office computers have built-in CD drives capable of reading CD-R and CD-ROM media, while a much smaller percentage have drives capable of reading DVD media. For presentations, video or other material that is meant for a larger audience, or to be viewed on a television, DVD media may be more appropriate.

Bits and Bytes

An important consideration when determining the correct media is how much and what type of content is to be distributed. A standard CD can hold approximately 700 MB/80 minutes. Common uses for CDs are music, software updates, data or document archival and presentations. A single layer DVD can hold much more data, 4.7 GB, making it ideal for combined audio/video presentations or large volumes of data. Both CD and DVD media can link to the Internet or be programmed with interactive features to engage the end user.

As you can see, picking the right type of media is just as important as determining the content you wish to distribute. Sales representatives are happy to work with you to determine the most effective and cost-efficient solution to your next project.

Summer is Coming...Time to Make a Splash

May 1, 2006 - Looking to make a splash in a new market? Maybe you're preparing a dynamic presentation for a high profile client, or simply looking to distinguish your products or services. Many organizations face the challenge of how to separate their products from the rest. Increasingly, businesses are turning to CDs and DVDs for communication, sales and marketing tools.

While much time is spent on the "wow factor" of the disc's contents, the graphic treatment of the disc often overlooked. For individuals or companies looking to pull ahead of the pack, a partially metallized disc offers unique graphical options.

A partially metallized CD-ROM is made by manufacturing a full (120mm) disc but allowing the metal to only cover a part of it, resulting in a unique looking disc that has both clear and metallized plastic. The combination of metal and clear areas allows for great latitude in graphic design for the disc face. Instead of blending in with other discs, a partially metallized disc makes a visual statement.

We use a mask of 79mm, which allows for a data capacity similar to a mini-round CD (180MB). While the data capacity is smaller than a traditional disc, the dimensions still allow for use in slot loading drives and players.

Increase ROI With Variable Data

January 24, 2006 - At a recent gathering of printers and advertising professionals, Grey Direct Chief Executive Lawrence Kimmel proclaimed mass marketing "definitively, absolutely, officially, clinically dead." Mass marketing is giving way to more targeted, personalized campaigns.

Spinergy offers solutions to personalized marketing approaches with variable data capabilities. Variable data means that information unique to the customer or consumer is contained on each CD. This could include either the text (label) on the surface of the disc or the content (data) on the disc, or both. This variable data results in a personalized message directly targeted to your potential recipient. For companies that require the flexibility of frequent, smaller runs of discs, Spinergy offers a full line of high performance CD duplication equipment and DVD duplication equipment.
