Handling Tips for CDs and DVDs
The National Institute of Standards and Technology has released some suggestions on how to handle CDs and DVDs. The suggestions include:
- Handle discs by the outer edge or the center hole. Do not touch the surface of the disc. Your fingerprints may be acidic enough to damage the disc.
- Use a felt-tip permanent marker to mark the label side of a CD. The marker should be water-based or alcohol-based. In general, these will be labeled “nontoxic.”
- Keep discs clean. Wipe with cotton fabric in a straight line from the center of the disc toward the outer edge. If you wipe a circle, any scratches may follow the tracks of the CD rendering them unreadable. Use CD/DVD-cleaning detergent, isopropyl alcohol or methanol to remove stubborn dirt.
- Return discs to their plastic cases immediately after use.
- Store discs upright in their cases.
- Store discs in a cool, dry, dark place with clean air. Don’t expose them to dry heat, humidity or sunlight.
- Don’t bend the disc.
- Do not use adhesive labels, since they can warp the disc or unbalance it.
- Do not scratch the label side of the disc. It’s more sensitive than the transparent side.
IRMA Study: Marketing CD = Better Response
A new study by the International Recording Media Association (IRMA) shows that using CDs/DVDs for direct mailing can result in three to six times greater response rates than traditional advertisements and brochures. Furthermore, the study showed that production and distribution costs associated with a CD/DVD mailing are 10 to 40 percent less than catalogs and other printed materials. The report also reveals the advantages of using a CD/DVD over these traditional mediums, which include: higher retention level, effective response tracking, internet link, ability to stand out, enhanced level of communication and recipients perceived value.
Golf Tip: Chipping Made Easy
Setup: Line the ball with your right shoulder. Open your shoulders & hips to allow your torso to rotate toward the target through impact. Make sure your hands are ahead of the ball and your weight is forward. You will be in position to hit down on the ball and prevent your wrists from scooping.
Swing: Keep your swing short! Concentrate on a descending strike. Don't get your legs involved. Instead, Concentrate on accelerating the club through the ball using only the rotation of your upper body. - Penfield Country Club
Golf Quote
“If a lot of people gripped a knife and fork the way they grip a golf club, they’d starve to death.” – Sam Snead
